[tube035] Motionfield - Northern Lights

«Swedish born Petter Friberg is a veteran when it comes to electronic dance music. He started producing underground techno back in the late 80's and issued a couple of twelve inches. After that, with partner Martin Frick under the alias Superstereo, he released three EPs of groovy danceable tunes, but after a few years he got into Eno and The Orb and began working in the ambient electronica field. As Motionfield, he has two excellent works published - one on Stadtgruen and another on Autoplate, Thinner's sublabel for ambient grooves. So, it's no less than an honour for test tube to feature his latest and third work, "Northern Lights".
Shorter than an album but a bit longer than an EP - kind of a mini-LP - "Northern Lights" is inspired by the long and bright summers in Scandinavia, the 'midnight sun', which never goes down in that time of year. Naturally, 'Nordic Lights' is a blissful start for this release, shifting between two different layers of ambient, closely reminding of 90's ambient electronica and also of more recent Boards of Canada material. But nature also plays a role in this release: 'Enter the Polar Circle' recycles early Biosphere ice-scapes into a post-millennum Vangelis, Blade Runner era; 'Sounds from a lonely forest', grows from a cold cavern-shaped musical score into a sweet little drone, ripped out from - again - Boards of Canada's best interludes. There are truly promising works here. Other tracks like 'Turning the plate' or 'Depend on me' play more into dark ambient territory, scandinavian flavored. And others yet, are perfect old-school ambient tracks, carrying us fifteen years back. All in all, a perfect release for the nostalgic 90's adolescent inside us all.» - Pedro Leitão

sgnl_fltr – Atrum [gruen015]

This months release comes from Thinner/Autoplate artist Danny Kreutzfeldt under his moniker 'sgnl_fltr'. A man so wonderful - he doesn't need an introduction. So he's not going to get one.

[ plexrecords ] 006 - brasswork agency - plastic smile

Back to the floor. By giving us Plastic Smile EP, Brasswork Agency (a.k.a. Justin Rick, dj/producer from Chicago) did great: futuristic house with tight beats, vocoder elements and deep techno emanations. Let's start with "Hard to Read", a solid tune featuring a funky minimal synthetic bassline. Then comes in a stranger mood the hypnotic "Plastic Smile". In "I Must Have You" Justin takes us to a more romantic place while keeping upliftin. Beautiful melancholic vocoder sounds! The trip ends with "Crushed and Shaken" and its subliminal spoken words, a perfect track for late nights!...

new Bubblegone EP @ Kikapu

A wonderfully beautiful new release is now available from Michigan's own bubblegone, entitled 'Somewhere Between Summer and Winter,' and we feel the title couldn't be more apt. A floating state lying somewhere between sheer joy and melancholy springs forth when one soaks in these pieces of experimental ambience, field recordings, and noise. A seven-track EP that ends all too soon, this is one release to be repeated over and over again to reach the full intended level of enjoyment.

New Releases @ politicide.net

The Haina - Kriechstrom e.p. Poli 053

The Haina is part of the wonderful electronic-duo “The Salamandroids”. Like his comrade Bock Andrews, he drives a very different style to the original-salamandroids-sound on his first debut. Some guys maybe remembering the song “Cinemaxx Dammtor”, a noisy ambient and doublebase-filled sound, which appeared @ the Politicide compilation “Politicide Academy” (Poli050). Feel free to dance.

Phonopilot - e.p. poli 054

Yes man, we did. One of my personal favorites. German-singer-wongwriter with beats from the computer. Everything will be fine. Feel free to visit their page phonopilot.de Some maybe will call it pop, i ´ll call it passion or something like that. The release comes with two remixes of our alltime favorites, too: A boring electro-ambient-version by Florian Filsinger and a techno-styled punkmix by the Salamandroids.
