PiSTON SOURCE, the pxtone mini-label, has released a new 6 track EP full of breakbeats and scorching synths. Although pxtone was designed to make chiptunes, this release shows you can do more than that. The first 4 tracks will be available to listen at myspace (bleh, i know) with the entire EP, along with the required pxtone 0.8 (free!) at the pistonsource homepage. DnB, oldskool uk hardcore breakbeat, chaotic rhythms, atmospheric melodies and anthems are contained inside the zip...please enjoy.

New release from BirdSong: Dudu Geva - Tumba Zombie + Streets Of Tomorrow

This collective of lunatics (named after the great israeli cartoonist) comes to us all the way from the land of baguettes and cheap red wine. this short two track album spans no more than 3 minutes. The music is a combination of psychedelic mayhem, progressive chord structures and cats in heat being tortured. This is just an introduction to this great band, so be sure to check out more of them.

cod061007a - FERENC VASPOERI: Live At Cod Estek

Live at Cod Estek is a monthly issued 3 part series of releases that contain the recordings of the very first mini-festival dedicated to Complementary Distribution netlabel that took place at Szovetseg 39 Gallery, in Budapest on the 6th and 7th of October 2006. Our first artist is Ferenc Vaspoeri, the young and talented Hungarian minimal techno producer who is a newcommer at Complementary Distribution (his debut release was Esplanade which featured remixes by other talents, like Cooler /Bitlab, Chi Recordings, U-Cover/, it’s still fresh! grab it!) – but definitely not in other highly reputable netlabels such as Standard Klik Musik or ChiWare. His live set contains brand new and upcoming tracks, even representing sometimes the serious and more dark side of Mr. Vaspoeri’s sounds. While, his pieces of tracks are modest body movers as well. Enjoy these 55 minutes from October, loop the past, it’s live. See you in the end of December.

[mimi067] : Chalana 1986 - Kick Off

It is with electricity that the project “Chalana 1984”, formed by Nuno Catarino (Journalist and critic on the site Bodyspace and on the magazines Mondo Bizarre and Jazz.pt) and André Pintado (member of the punk band “17icos”) deals. The instruments and gadgets that the duo work with, all depend on electricity and have the distinctive character of the electric sound – guitar, effects pedals, radio, toy-keyboards, electronic everyday objects…

Experimental in the form of concretization of concepts, but positioning themselves in broad popular music territory, and using up to the limit a form of energy for mass-consumption, it is only natural that their “noise” propositions revealed in their single album “Kick Off” (made available in MySpace), called for the football imaginary. What is certain is that the sound experimentalism has been labelled as a elitist and marginal practice in the artistic medium, where the so called “erudite contemporary music” lives, but this research practice as nothing to do with the academic musical medium, or the historical, cultural and social heritage of the classical period. In fact, in this case, the references to Rock (a musical language that alone is a glorification of electricity) and to Jazz (the first track of the album is an homage to Evan Parker, as the name indicates), even to popular urban music, are much to clear to be labelled as “alternatives” or to support the claim of “avant-garde” music. Even the title of the album (“Kick Off”) is typical of rock music.

Now, the only thing left to do is to plug-in Chalana 1984 to all speakers in the country this Christmas and to all stadiums, so that our fellow citizens may find out how electrical circuits sound. Rui Eduardo Paes

[img005] Upload The Brain Universe

Upload The Brain Universe is a collection of spoken word recordings culled from the literature of Japanese cyberpunk author Kenji Siratori and offered to experimental artists as a contribution towards a collaboration. Featuring a broad range of avant garde sound experimentalists Upload The Brain Universe melts jarringly through a gammut of nontraditional music and non-music styles, each track hauntingly accentuated by the distinct contributions of Kenji himself.
