RB058 - gillicuddy - the repeating thoughts of old zinng-zanng

"grumpy folk with a grin", that's how gillicuddy, in real life Andi Rohden, titles his musical output. Mainly based on folk-orientated acoustic guitar-lines with slightly broken vocals and additional background-structure from a keyboard, melodica, accordion or a second guitar-line, his work reminds me mostly of Tom Waits, acoustic dEUS, non-electrical Notwist or Modest Mouse.

"the repeating thoughts of old zinng-zanng" is the follow-up to his "Shmalhans is Kuechenmeister"-release on Merzbau-Label and it is a very special thing. On the release-label it consists of 5 tracks, only numbered by roman letters I to V. Starting to listen, you'll first get two outstanding folk-pop-tunes. Track "I" has a certian "The Notwist"-feeling in my ears, a very clear and catchy melody, a bit melancholic but always with a shimmering light in the back. The track fades away after two minutes, and "II" starts. More dramatic and deeper, but also leaving a footprint in your auditory canal when it stops after another two minutes. Followed by "III" which means 10 seconds silence and then...

...you hear "the repeating thoughts". Is it the same? Is it slightly different? Am I in the head of a songwriter? Am I part of the process? Is it a joke?

Rainsome Lone Netaudio ambient mix May 2009

Rainsome LoneAn atmospheric, relaxing and melancholic ambient set with some epic parts. It starts somewhere far away and comes down to ground level very quickly. The middle part is dominated by deepness and repetitive soundscapes turning around themselves. It moves on, fading to more lighter music, still some soundscapes but with a perspective, a "happy end" which is descpribed with warm and welcoming music.

ca256 - Jeff Cloke - Yearbook

Photobucket

All tracks are examples of Reson8, the laptop setup used by Jeff Cloke for live sampling and studio production. Reson8 uses Ableton Live as the platform for some unique spectral processing. Tracks are generally slow-moving, gentle and harmonically rich, with a touch of noise!

[BP031] Cursed Chimera - Glitch PATH

Artist: Cursed Chimera
Title: Glitch PATH
Cat#: BP031
Date of release: 05 May, 2009
Styles: IDM, Chiptune, Glitch
Format: File, MP3, 320 kbps

Cursed Chimera's Glitch PATH is one of his finest forrays into IDM to date. Composed during a time of great flux and much movement on his part, he found the time to compose one of the most deep sounding albums in his current catalog. Crotch Fires! could be featured on any Warp Records compilation as its eary square waves chill the air next to the cut'n'paste downtempo beat that breaks up any chance to maintain a constant flow on the dance floor. Deathly Like Jazz heads into the more noise/glitch side of the album as the driving Hardcore sound of Driver MicroNaughts pounds the PATH further into you skull. We settle back into the soft and hopeful This One Time and finish with Correction, which seems like a happy little bird safe in its nest. Do take this PATH as Cursed Chimera has found himself a new home in the arms of chaos and this will be the last pretty moment you will be hearing from him.

Kahvi#268: Stud / Swordcore

Stud makes a return to Kahvi in the shape of 'Swordcore'. A curious name for what turns out to be a distinctly non-curious release by Stud. A different Stud is apparent from the previous strange-but-great releases previously featured on Kahvi.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that Stud has been DJ'ing in and around Moscow these past years and as you can see, the tracks are aimed squarely at the dance end of 'IDM'.

Some truly epic and excellent tracks can be found in this 6 tracker - Liquid Fur and Pixeltank being two of my favourites but DM17 is probably the highlight for me from this ep. Classic analogue beats put to superb bassline and pads - its an age old recipe but one that is used to such good effect in this track. Welcome home Stud in this epic ep - one that defines the Kahvi sound

[Miga32] Rominger "Music for camping" + [Miga_v16] Jon Herranz “Nice summer”

[Miga32] "Music for camping" is the first Lp of the canarian artist Rominger. Living in Barcelona since the end of 90´s, he has collaborated in so many different musical (Sobreimagen, Velcro) and artistic projects (Pendrive, Plug Festival). If we talk about music styles, Rominger moves inside the huge space between pop and electronic music, creating new contrasts and musical flavours. Leo (trumpet, synth, voices) and Yeray (drums), have been able to give expressiveness and character to this work, making an album that becomes into a great introduction letter. In [Miga_v16] "Nice Summer", video clip that completes this release, Jon Herranz gives life to some of the characters that can be found in the particular world of Rominger.
