New Release! Audioteka - Just So Simple [ASTOR012]

Just So Simple cover art

Artist: Audioteka
Title: Just So Simple
Cat. No: ASTOR012
Date: 2010-01-29
Label: Astor Bell
Keywords: minimal; techno; electronic;
Tracklist:
1. Simple Feelings
2. Simple Colors

When gazing upon your world map, it might strike you as spectacular how the sounds of the Berlin underground can trickle all the way to Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Taking into consideration our knowledge of the modern, network- connected planet, it is of course not the same sensation. Still, one can't avoid wondering if the massive amount of land in between hasn't given flavor to the ones and zeros streaming through the pipelines in order to reconnect as digital audio in the other end.

When playing out Just So Simple, focusing your ears beyond the sharp synthetic beats and the dark deep bass, you can't escape the echoes of unending Siberian pine forests, sparkling rivers, majestic ice-covered mountain ranges and abandoned Soviet era concrete cities. Audioteka plugged their laptops into the leftover equipment of a Cosmonaut space station and streamed the output through a state of the art night club speaker system. This is a recording from the other end of the neighbouring plains. Aimed straight for your heart. Open it up.

[MIXG005] Talemore – Searching For Life

With this first full-length album released by Mixgalaxy Records dark-ambient composer Stanislav Tretyakov, who works under an alias of Talemore introduces himself to the listeners of our label. As you may have already figured, you are about to be moved to the obscure side of ambient music. This record comprehends a rich spectre of those elements that formed the genre: dismal drones and dreary pads building up a strong atmosphere, some field recordings, some anthropogenic sound effects deliver deeper immersion. Tracks vary from Eastern flavored solemn compositions with chanting voices, woodwinds and ethnic percussion to mysterious futuristic soundscapes. Overall it is a very strong music set for those enjoying the genre or interested in dark side of atmospheric-driven music.

[NS007] [aaahh.008] Uniform Motion - Pictures

Uniform Motion - Pictures
Uniform Motion - Pictures
No-Source Netlabel & Aaahh Records - [NS007] [aaahh.008]

Uniform Motion is Andrew Richards and Renaud Forestié. This is truly a release for the multimedia generation. Each song off the album contains a corresponding music video as well as beautiful art direction and comic strips provided by Renaud Forestié. Their music is rich with pop sensibility, experimentalism, waves of vocal harmonies, and layers of acoustic guitar. Notwist, Elliot Smith, and Sufjan Stevens come to mind when listening to Pictures. With all the comparisons, Uniform Motion manage to paint a sound that remains all their own.

The 4-string guitar is the backbone of this album. Multiplied, duplicated, interlaced, and dissonant as if there were different personalities trying to jump out of it. The vocals follow the same pattern when strummed guitar strings become strings of words, or soft utterances that give substance to a subconscious idea. The beating of African percussion can be heard in the background, emanating from an urban soundscape, evoking a primitive nature, an imaginary journey, a calm floating sensation. The guitars hold this all together.

Some may think that Rain&Soil is reminiscent of the magnetism of Midlake’s Roscoe, that the generosity of Earthly Diamond resembles that of Sufjan Stevens’ work, that the vocals point towards the softness of Iron & Wine. Some may even sense José Gonzalez’s guitars resonating in the picture somewhere. Or perhaps there’s something you can’t quite put your finger on that makes you think of Peter Gabriel. The author of the biography can’t argue with any of that.

I cannot recommend this album enough. Uniform Motion is definitely a band to keep a close eye on as they grow and progress musically. Pictures is a joint release on No-Source Netlabel (US) with Aaahh Records (DE).

01) Earthly Diamonds
02) Rain and Soil
03) The Pen Fallacy
04) Citizen Grave
05) Cast Iron
06) Fathers of our Homeland
07) Falling off Trees
08) Selling Pictures
09) Such a Shame

[top-40.org] Alexei Borisov & Olga Nosova - Istanbul Kebap

Alexei Borisov & Olga Nosova - Istanbul Kebap

MP3, FLAC, streaming + photogallery and bonus live video

Recorded live at Spektro Festival, Turkey, October 21, 2009.

Alexei Borisov - voice, stylophone, electronics, effects
Olga Nosova - drums, voice, TB-303, effects

Today top-40.org is proudly presenting you the first ever completed release by one of the most evident and enjoyable project in Russian experimental electronics in 2009. The collaborative project of Olga Nosova (drummer mostly known for her work with avantgardish noise-punk band Motherfathers) and electronics veteran Alexei Borisov was formed in April 2009 in Moscow, Russia. Their highly improvised music embrace elements of weird free-form spoken word psychedelia, live electronics, noise, heavy acid, electroacoustic, dub, etc.

"Istanbul Kebap" is not just an ordinary concert recording - here you got the emotional, hypnotizing evocative experience of Turkish voyage, weird but soulful musicotherapy for restless urbanites, combining idiosyncrasy of machine, random noises of swarming street market, illegal radio transmissions and yet the poignant and expressive, astonishing musical set,a groundbreaking on purpose, classy and exalted at it's best...
