RB067 - strom noir - kueyen

strom noir is a project of Emil Matko, born in 1979 and now living in Bratislava, Slovakia. He is wellknown from his releases on u-cover (ylomejja, kruhyNAvode), ambsine (luvyoo) and format noise (lorawa).

"kueyen" brings you six athmospheric ambient-experimental tracks, built mainly with electric and acoustic guitar loops, synth-layers and some well-arranged field-recording elements. Deep, sometimes really dark droning elements, repetitive melodic structures and more abstract electronic sounds were composed to six works with a big ambience and a little melancholic touch. Especially the combination between the rougher guitar loops and the cleaner synth-parts opens up a new and wide soundworld to the listener.

A great release to enjoy the last summer evenings here in Europe. Please lay back, watch the stars above you and enjoy "kueyen".

[ACP058] Prince Kong - Dub War

"About 18 months ago I had a notion to do a track with Warrior Queen, & when I got to London to record the vocal track I ended up in a small studio in Stretham Hill with A bunch of big Jamaican blokes (chuffing heavily) and of course... Warrior Queen. All was going accordingly until she went out on a call and I was approached by this huge black guy who demanded (politely though) that I record a version of him on the rhythm. Naturally I obliged and in one take he laid down such a perfect vocal that when I got back to Dublin I had to cut a new rhythm for Warrior Queen and keep him on the original...that was Jah Balance. This was to be my first encounter of many with Balance and his extended crew. Since that day a strong urge to work with MC's has become a central part of my sound. Having the opportunity to work with talents like Warrior Queen, Jah Balance, Eccleton Jarrett (of Jammy's studios, JA), the insanely talented Lady Grew, MC Quilombola, krakken...and many many more, has manifested in a gruffer bass heavy style (a change from the snare rattled tracks of my yester years). In this collection I have decided to feature Jah Balance & Eccleton Jarrett exclusively to try to give some insight into the genisis of the last year and a half's work. It's nice for me to be able to show these as it gives some grounding to my recent releases; Crossroads 7" on alphabetset, Proper Horror Show on MMR/Ghetto Quietly, Well Sick (upcoming for !Kaboogie) and some random other tracks that pop up here and there. And the last three dubs of the originals...well...because I felt like it :)" - Kong 8 tracks total.

(MA051) Sick-E - Genotyp Jazz

Progress seems to be the very nature of the universe as we know it. All living things are ever moving and changing, striving for something just a step beyond the horizon. Nevertheless, sometimes it is a good idea to come to a halt in this evolutionary rat race, turn around and ponder how we got here in the first place. This is why Sick-E has been taking some time off his musical flagship that is the Zengineers for a trip down memory lane, resulting in an LP that takes the listener back into the musical past in a number of ways. With Genotype Jazz, Sick-E gives a nod and a bow to the icons of mid-90s triphop that first introduced him to the possibilities of non-analogue music. And in a way quite similar to the likes of DJ Krush, RJD2 or The Herbalizer he also pays homage to the half-forgotten realms of old jazz and funk sounds, wrapped in heart-warming pops and crackles. On a different level, Genotype Jazz also harks back to the first tracks the Zengineers produced as a newly formed team back in 2005. In this spirit the album hovers from moody and atmospheric downtempo beats to re-assembled funkbreaks and back, sometimes even venturing into pop territory, with a distinct jazzy vibe telling you that you are still on track. And of cause at the very end it delivers the obligatory co-production with Zengineer’s Phour Trakk, linking it all back to the musical present and future.
