[NTT034] Autopsy Protocol - Umami
From Barcelona comes Eduard Catafal Abril's project Autopsy Protocol, which was previously featured on the Lostfrog netlabel. In Umami he mixes violent extremes with a healthy dose of humor.
Elements of headsplicing industrial and hardcore are entangled in original b-movie and local village song samples. The combination is very entertaining and shows a lot of compositional skill. Fans of Kurosawa/Miike style flicks should feel right at home in this ambiguous environment.
The included videoclip shows quite alarming footage from the mind's darker corners, while the accompanying track was made using an optical theremin connected to a kaosspad and guitar pedals.
Impressive stuff that proves the hardcore industrial era is not over yet.
[NTT035] Metro_NM - Skazka
It's not the first time that Entity virtually dwells in the depths of Russia, and with good reason (CD-R, Cisfinitum, anyone?)! This Metro_NM release for instance, of which the first track was originally released on the Top-40.org netlabel, reminds us of the surreal scopes and depth that is seemingly prevalent in their experimental musical subculture.
Ingeniously switching between rhythmic, ambient, vocal and abstract passages, the title track is a sublime journey into Vladimir's almost poetic universe. The insane variety in this piece definitely warrants multiple rewarding listening sessions.
What follows are emotionally charged, less chaotic, beautifully crafted atmospheres that come very highly recommended as well. Must-hear.

Meadows & Labyrinths - Meadows & Labyrinths (3" EP)
Meadows and Labyrinths is a psychedelic ambient piece consisting of two tracks which are a part of a larger work by Luke Hazard (aka: Plantre) which has been in the making for over two years. these songs have a heavy emphasis on noise, and sometimes visit much more abrasive sounds than one would expect to hear in most ambient, but not without conviction. transformation is a key theme, and the changes these songs go through are both welcoming and unpredictable. a beautiful mystery not too unlike what the title implies.
Meadows & Labyrinths is being released on 3" cd-r each personally designed and hand printed by the artist himself. the surfaces of the cds are textural, and each one has its own unique design made with imprints of leaves, string, and anything else Luke could get his hands on. a lot of time and effort has gone into this project, so these will only be available in limited quantities.

Intelligent Machinery Productions presents:
jfox - Experimental Compositions Vol. 2i
The amazing follow-up to the debut release ECV1, Experimental Compositions Vol. 2i picks up where the first album left off, creating more sparse, minimal compositions that allow the sounds around you to ebb and flow with the music, creating an environmental listening experience that is unique with every play. Vol. 2i maintains that level of creative minimalism, while elevating the quality of composition far above that of its predecessor.

"sotto voce" is the brand new album of NYC artist John Hudak: Poised somewhere between mechanical music & chamber pieces (for pizzicato cello), these tracks herald the return of the avantgarde to her original locality: the salon, this heart of 'bourgeois' society. The non-communicative qualities of the modernistic literary avantgarde (of which James Joyce & Gertrude Stein in particular may be considered iconographic), we find here in the sublimated form of tranquil and austere monophonies, the unique character of which - each voice, each work, each individual genius - now comes to reside purely in the abstracted prosody of midi-triggered cello samples. This is altogether an undeniably 'post-modern' take on modernism: the unrelentless and self-consuming presence of the original art of which these pieces are derived (the pieces are taken from the voices of Gertrude Stein and James Joyce reading from their works) has now taken a much more diluted and yet more immanent form: a music which having soaked up all the heavy-weighing ambiance of artistic ideals & pretension and, having become satiated, now softly leaks out into the salon as conversation pieces, bringing human life in all its 'ordinariness' (the inverted comma's, being the trade-mark of postmodernity, signifying its own special character) back into the room, and perhaps breathing new life into the idea of the salon.
Sieve's debut Kikapu release is full of grit, dirt under the fingernails; a style that slaps you in the face and wakes you up with a start. This excellent EP's source materials are samples that Sieve originally recorded in 1997, possibly from a Casio toy keyboard, that have been re-recorded and bastardized many times over the years and have finally come to fruition in these tracks. This one isn't for the squeamish.
Noerror is a project born in early 2000. Its first purpose was to relate some of the most famous demoscene music releases, it extended to all the active demoscene netlabels and finally all the netlabels, no disctinction. Just talent and beautiful music is now the word.
