Probably the most gorgeous and emotive album we've ever released, Pablo Cepeda's debut EP is a staggering achievement. Hailing from Argentina, Pablo is an extraordinarily gifted musician whose sound focuses on live string arrangements surrounded by guitar, piano, vocal, and rhythmic accompaniment, as well occasional swells of electronic elegance. These tracks are a movie soundtrack waiting to happen; when listening one can feel the edits in an imaginary film reel whizzing by in your head. This EP is one of the highlights of our entire catalogue - definitely do not pass this one up.

panic (picnic) plan
what we do is always wrong, and when we realize it, it's usually already gone far and beyond our control.
from the fragments of the faded daily life, from the 'broken pieces,' we try to play backwards the daily life to the starting point, but the result is always monstrously distorted and unstable.
i'm always thinking of visionary sounds, sounds of some imaginary creatures or simply new sounds. they still haven't come to me yet.
at the moment, i'm like a cloud in the right yet unstable form transforming into something else before long.

the third instalment on routine comes from our finnish friend jani rantanen a.k.a. outgate, who returns after a break with more machinated techno material in a style similar to that of his rtn001 contribution "take me back". like said track, the musics on this ep revolve around a similar theme: start with a plain beat, break it down, add wondrous little sounds, make a lot of promises, and cut right back to the plain beat. in spite of what you may be thinking: it works wonders in practice. this ep is one minimal, yet big, hypnotic trip into outgate's personal twist on machinated music.
Third Release of Yuki Yaki
Zofa - Private
Is it the abrasive sensation of the megalopolis Mexico City or is it more the shivering awe in the shadows of an ancient Aztec temple that keep the tunes of this Mexican Electronica craftsman confidently on the edge between beauty and bit reduction.
Just envision an immaculate House tune being fragmented into a thousand shiny dazzling splinters and then being recomposed by the artist showing an unconcealed indulgence for tiny little flaws and scratches.
Zofa keeps a moderate pace on his 5-tracker for Yuki Yaki which appears to underline the comfy furniture reference of the name itself. Zofa seems to be more after the slightly abstract dim-lit glamour of an artisan bar than after floor-breaking excitement.
This minimalist cocktail has to be served chilled!
as featured on DI.FM, this mix is two hours of some of the best tracks from kahvi, mixed expertly by kaen.
Total playtime: 2 hours, 4 minutes and 12 seconds

after his successful online releases on 12k/term and con-v and a new recent online work on earlabs, boston based sound artist Asher presents his first cdr, "graceful degradation": "these works started their lives as recordings of my piano onto an old, beat up tape using an old tape recorder. the piano I bought on the street in brooklyn for seventy five dollars. I was told it had been the piano in a local bar and was in quite a state of disrepair. over the year or so that I lived in my apartment I grew quite attached to the black spinet with gold stickers spelling "steinwa" on its face. the cassette I found while cleaning out old offices in queens. it was among an abandoned collection of cassettes that someone left behind. I adopted them, giving them new life by layering field recordings and piano over led zeppelin and the police which i found on them. the tape recorder I found in a storeroom at work. no one cared when I took it home and it always sat next to the piano with a cassette ready. one of the cassettes I ended up using had been recorded onto so many times that it became worn out and never played back my recordings the same way. after working with this cassette for a while i had filled it up, even recording over some of my own recordings. at this point I started creating compositions using this material, with ?samples of various lengths looped and played against each other, yielding unexpected results. I came across the concept of graceful degradation while reading a book by richard restak. I realized that the idea fit in very well with the work I was doing. memories are recorded in our brains and surface whenever they are triggered; but each memory is blurred through the process of recollection. This blurring process occurs as memories are recalled and observed in the present, altering the original version. There are many references to this concept within the compositional process and final results, and perhaps more which I haven't discovered. The first layer I encountered was within the cassette. Each time I played a section of the tape the sounds were altered and placed in a new context. The next layer was in the studio working with the sounds, sampling sections of the tape and creating the compositions. as each sample plays its part in the piece, it is altered through its relationship with the sounds of the other samples. Another layer exists while listening, as each person develops an individual relationship with the piece, and the sounds are placed in the context of their experience" (notes by Asher)
