20.02.2006 [THN084] Nulleins - Seven Spaces
FILE UNDER: Earthy Organic Dubtech Album
Achieving a high degree of diversity therefore has to
be an important goal for a near-60-minutes release.
Seven Spaces fulfills this requirement by alternating
between organic, soothing, earthy pieces and "classic"
rolling dub-techno tracks stuffed with lots of reverb
and echoes - the latter already well-known from
previous Nulleins EPs on Thinner.
(7 tracks - 56min 35sec - 79.70 MB)
16.01.2006 [APL035] Move D - 10/11 - Live at Johanneskirche
FILE UNDER: Chamberdubs live at the Church
Recorded live in a unique environment “Johanniskirche”
Church in Düsseldorf, the first liveset release by Move D
is a pulsating, thrilling and comfortable intersection
between Funk, Ambient and carefully crafted Minimalism.
(14 tracks - 78min 51sec - 111.08 MB)
An optional CDR Version is available that contains the
original masters without mp3 compression artefacts and
gapless audio.
18.01.2006 [THN083] Alta Infidelidad - Cactus Y Volcanes
FILE UNDER: Trippy Chilean Minimalism
For this release, Receptor and Christian Dittman from hot
Santiago de Chile team up to compress their associative,
trippy sound on and on, with continously compact melody
fragments over soundeffects. At times they let soundeffects
run against each other and have the sample elements
communicating with each other in a virtuose way. A bipolar
team play, an allegory similar as the reach from north and
south of the chilean country. Although it feels dry and
dusty by times, the soul within is deep and emotional.
(10 tracks - 66min 52sec - 94.12 MB)
11.01.2006 [THN082] Thinner & Epsilonlab - Silence Is Presence
FILE UNDER: Accompaning Promo Release for our DVD
This DVD is a joint effort between the european Thinner and the Canadian Epsilonlab Netlabels and is a resumee for the special partnership between both Labels. It all started back in 2002 when Thinner was a young project publishing mp3s in the internet for free and Epsilonlab was tied to CD releases.
What started as a loose chat about track exchanges developed into the first Thinner visit in Montréal and Québéc City early 2003 and continued with an extended schedule and more compact line up in early 2004 when Thinner also hit the clubs in Toronto, Ottawa and last but not least Detroit. Nowadays Epsilonlab counts 21 MP3 releases while Thinner (including the releases of the Autoplate sublabel) offers about 125 releases of free MP3s.

03.12.2005 [DVD] Thinner & Epsilonlab - Silence Is Presence
The DVD features music that can be described as dub-inspired, ambient, rhythmic, tech-house, electro and occasionally hypnotic or spellbinding. As for visuals, an original unifying concept guided VJs as they produced each of the video clips: the presence of the same dancer/actor throughout, the use of a specific color, and a series of keywords. Based on these keywords, Montreal poet and linguist Dessavage created subtitles. A rarity, the subtitle options are in fact a complementary artwork set in relation to the DVD’s audiovisual content. Dessavage explored two distinct concepts for the French and English versions. Martin Bélanger, a Montreal-based choreographer, dancer and performer, generously offered his time to play the DVD’s main protagonist.
This project was produced under the artistic direction of Les Passagers, recipients of the grand prize for best digital animation at the recent Grafika awards for their video-clip, "Miss", which is included on the DVD.
DVD Features
* 11 Thinner/Epsilonlab Tracks seamlessly mixed by DJ Eloi Brunelle visualized by various Epsilonlab VJs

* Artist Biographys

° "When I write code, then it had to be quiet, the night is best. But when I make music than everything must be on: the people in the street, the tv, everything", said Kazooo last night via instant messaging. We were preparing this release and really put some work into it. "The Ramp" is an ep where kazooo hits the essence of his style at a very precise level. Squirrling loops and blank beats make this mixture of music that I want to call: addictive techno. I don't know how to describe it, but when I listen to kazooo's tracks, there is always that moment of more, that moment of don't stop this loop, because it feels and sounds so good. I am still waiting for a website with Kazooos complete discography. Are there any teenage fanclubs out there? Would be great. ° I've taken two of my most loved artworks from my doodlebox to illustrate the release. I am not the one to comment my own work, but feel free to leave a comment below about that.
Japanese artist Sabi, aka Taro Peter Little, has been releasing on Monotonik since the late '90s, when we were called Mono, and his .MODs under the name of Taro were, heh, almost controversial for being lo-fi and crunchy. Since then, he also released the 'Four Thousand Years EP', and has also had tracks and remixes on compilations from Merck, Saag Records, and Hydrogen Dukebox. Anyhow, 'Unsui EP' is a beautifully ambient collection of 4 tracks that Sabi compiled specially for Monotonik release.
The man behind Shrine is Hristo Gospodinov from Bulgaria. After several years of playing various acoustic instruments Hristo finally turns into sampling to express his musical ideas in a different way. "Shrine" was started in 2003 in order to create unusual type of ambient. Since then til now his music has evolved into a different directions but always in the field of drifting ambient soundscapes. "Harmony, Bliss, Rust" contains three lengthy tracks which will take you to uncharted desolate places with their slowly evolving sounds. Although the songs are very soft and laidback it doesnt keep Shrine from playing around with distortion, first with some light distortion in Harmony and later with more and more. This doesn't keep the album from being soothing, it works great both as usual background ambience and for active listening.
Lovesick? Or in a "Winter ends" sentimental mood? Then get your musical healing with the "Melancholy EP" by Gene Donor's Inc. feat. Besucco and Barthes. To be found on the netlabel site "Elektriksheep". The EP is based on a true story - sad but sheep, rockin' but heat. Note the voice on "La Fugitive (Can't Love)". Besucco is a fuckin' great talent from Marseille and a real individual when it comes to treating a (his) voice. The lyrics in the "The Wait" will you "kick out the chairs" - at least if you have ever been lovesick. Barthes obviously was. Difficult to say whether his talent for that is greater than the one for writing lyrics. Download from Elektriksheep in the "Music Download Section" and feel for yourself.
D-R + Motor – Zima (Winter) This short album is the unique collaboration between the well-known young Russian musician CD-R (Nikita Golyshev) and the permanent founder of Top 40 foundation Motor (Vadim Ugriumov). CD-R began his musical career as a noise musician, creating extreme, aggressive music, harsh noise, but later he focused on more calm, complicated sounds, glitch ambient, minimal, concrete music, etc. This album was created in the several steps. First of all, F.S.B. prepared his Archive album especially for Top 40. It was the long-playing collection of the basic elements of musical composing – some primary, but very simple sounds – locked grooves, drones, soundwaves, some clicks, some cuts, some microsounds, field recordings and so on. All this key elements were just mixed up one after another. This work was a basis for Winter-album. It was remixed, re-edited, and cut up by Motor, and later this half-made work was greatly reworked by CD-R. The result is very impressive. Sounds very complicated and fitted, this work includes all the best, created in modern electronic of last few decades – from academic minimalism and microwave, drone-ambient, to glitchy, powerful noise-techno, dirty acid grooves and powerful noise gradients. It’s not very common situation, then collaborative work can show the best sides and abilities of each involved personnel without losing the main idea of the composition. But you’re able to find this extraordinary balance in this work. Very deep, fascinating album, it’s full of possibilities to explore hidden horizons and emotional fields. free download from: http://www.archive.org/details/top-40
